Waypoint Maine & The Progress Center Announcement

July 25, 2025

Waypoint Maine, Inc and The Progress Center announced that they have co-signed a Letter of Intent to merge The Progress Center with and into Waypoint.* Following the merger, the two centers of operation intend to serve southern and western Maine through community-based care to improve the lives of Mainers living with intellectual and developmental disabilities, autism and behavioral health challenges.

By coming together, the two nonprofit organizations underscore their shared commitment to enhancing the quality of life for those they support and expanding access to much needed services in Maine. Following the merger, Waypoint will be well positioned to invest in staff, technology and the expansion of services by maximizing the collective expertise and experience of both organizations.
“We recognize the value The Progress Center brings to Waypoint and look forward to the substantial impact we can have in southern Maine and beyond,” said Jennifer Putnam, Executive Director of Waypoint.
“As a former colleague of The Progress Center team, I admire the excellent work they do in supporting individuals and their families. Following the merger, we will be committed to honoring the organization’s legacy of service.”

“The Progress Center has taken an important step in ensuring that individuals living with intellectual disabilities and autism thrive in the Oxford region,” said Kathy Perkins, Board Chair of The Progress Center. “We admire the work Waypoint does and anticipate that the merger will provide significant opportunities for those we serve and our team members.”

The merger of The Progress Center into Waypoint is expected to be completed in October 2025, pending completion of due diligence and satisfaction of any required regulatory approvals.

“We look forward to working with state agencies and community members in meeting the needs of families and individuals who rely on our services and in identifying where new and expanded services are needed,” said Putnam.*Closing of the merger remains subject to ongoing due diligence by the parties, the negotiation of a definitive merger agreement and satisfaction of the conditions included therein, and the final approval of the boards of directors of both organizations.
